I do think that things like take-home assignments can be used thoughtfully, like as a hedge against nerves coding in front of an audience or working in an unfamiliar development environment, but wow that is not how they’re being used by most.

The good news is that so many places doing such a weird job makes it easier to spot companies that are being thoughtful and it reflects well on them.
